# Application overview

Claims Legal supports SAIF insurance claims and legal operations staff who need to open a claim-linked legal case, maintain hearing and appeal activity, manage assignments and calendars, track case costs and acknowledgements, coordinate other parties, and produce correspondence and reports.

## Purpose
- Establish claim context and open or search for a claim-linked legal case ([frmCaseSearch](../screens/frm-case-search.md)).
- Maintain the legal case lifecycle: hearing schedules, file locations, and legal case evaluations (LCEs) ([frmSchedule](../screens/frm-schedule.md)).
- Capture case requests, request issues, and consolidated-case linkage during intake ([frmRequest](../screens/frm-request.md)).
- Manage appeals, appeal extensions, and oral arguments ([frmAppeal](../screens/frm-appeal.md)).
- Record case outcomes, orders, and case closure ([frmOutcomes](../screens/frm-outcomes.md)).
- Track other parties and their addresses on a case ([frmOtherParties](../screens/frm-other-parties.md), [AddressPopUp](../screens/address-pop-up.md)).
- Capture and approve case costs, including provider lookups ([frmCaseCost](../screens/frm-case-cost.md)).
- Run attorney assignment, calendar review, and time-off operations independent of a single case context ([frmAssignment](../screens/frm-assignment.md), [frmCalendarReview](../screens/frm-calendar-review.md), [frmTimeOff](../screens/frm-time-off.md)).
- Maintain board logs and attorney message reporting ([frmBoardLog](../screens/frm-board-log.md), [frmMessages](../screens/frm-messages.md)).
- Process mail dates, acknowledgements, and file-creation markers, and trigger LegalNet letter generation ([frmMailDate](../screens/frm-mail-date.md), [frmAcknowledge](../screens/frm-acknowledge.md), [frmCreateFile](../screens/frm-create-file.md)).
- Generate PDF previews, xPression/SSRS reports, and CSV exports (frmPrintPreview).

The screen set shows a clear split between case-context work for a selected claim and non-case-context operational lists such as assignment, board log, mail date, acknowledgement, create file, calendar review, and attorney time off.

## Users

| Legal admin (`LNAdmin`) | Full Legal-admin bypass role with unconditional claim-view access and full note edit/delete rights. | Case search, case maintenance, note administration across all cases regardless of conflict/exposure flags. |
| Case-update user (`LNCaseUpdate`) | Broad case-update role short of full admin. | Editing legal cases, schedules, appeals, outcomes, and notes for non-restricted claims. |
| View-only user (`LNView`) | Read-only role. | Reviewing case data, schedules, and notes without save/edit capability. |
| Conflict/exposure-cleared user (`LNConflict`, `LNExposure`) | Users explicitly granted access to conflict-of-interest or exposure-flagged claims. | Opening and working legal cases linked to claims flagged `IsWorkerConflict` or `IsExposure`. |
